Practical Information > Public transportation

Public transportation in Nice is reliable and convenient.

To buy tickets, you first need to purchase a rechargeable card for 2 . The card is available at ticket machines at most tram stops (not at the airport!) and can be paid for by card or coins. You can recharge the card at ticket machines choosing between (multiple) single trips (1,70 per trip, valid for 74 minutes, includes transfers) or a 7-day pass for 20 €.

At ticket machines at both airport terminals you can only buy a return (Airport - Nice - Airport) ticket that costs 10 €.

Alternatively, you can reach the tram stop Grand Arenas free of charge on any tram line (i stops from Terminal i, i=1,2) and buy a rechargeable card for 2 € from machines there.

You can avoid purchasing rechargable card at all and get tickets on your smartphone using two apps (available only on Android):

  • Lignes d’Azur Tickets (for ticket purchases)
  • Carte Lignes d’Azur Mobile (to store your virtual transport card).

P.S. You need both apps, but you only use the first one.

The MacOS app Lignes d’Azur Tickets allows to attach the physical rechargeable card via NFC and then use its digital version.

Beware of pickpocketing

As in most major tourist cities, Nice experiences cases of pickpocketing, particularly at the airport and at the train station Nice Ville. Keep an eye on your luggage, do not leave your belongings unattended, and avoid carrying your documents and wallet in outer pockets. Pickpocketers often target travelers who are distracted or in a hurry.
